What is the best ballistic program?

Do you remember a time when having one of these programs seemed novel? Fast forward to today. Showing up at a long-range match without one would probably draw some amusing looks. If we learn anything from history, it is that technology will pave the way to the new. And this is where we will begin today.

The first order of business is determining if you have any purpose for a Ballistic Program. It is my opinion that if you’re not shooting beyond 200 yards, your time would be better spent elsewhere. All of the programs use the same base mathematic calculations. But that is where the similarities come to a screeching halt. Some make use of kindergarten math, while others employ a Ph.D. in physics.

What are the pros and cons of using this software?

The ballistic programs are incredibly accurate. I have used mine successfully, hitting targets a mile away in one shot. The drawback is that if you incorrectly input the information, you’re going to have issues. The saying, “garbage in, garbage out,” has never been so adequately demonstrated.

Example:

When I initially set up my program, it took hours. Why? Because that’s how detail-oriented the software is. I even acquired measurements from my rifle.

By now, you have realized that I’m not naming what ballistic program I use — years of being Internet hardened. I know better. It’s kind of like the Ford vs. Chevy debate.

I am sure some keyboard commandos will proclaim,

“I can hit a target at a thousand yards with a factory rifle, a cheap scope, and ammo my ten-year-old daughter loaded,” when in reality, they can barely get from their sofa to the kitchen to get another burrito.

If you would like to know what is the best ballistic program I recommend, please send me an e-mail because I am more than happy to help. As of now, I am out of coffee and done writing until I get re-supplied.
